| I like this page, the colour is very suitable, atleast, to me it is, and I do like the close up of the creatures head, atleast, it looks like it's head, i might be wrong, again. |
| by Dr_Thompson @ 11 April 2008 04:12 am |
| I have to say that I do prefer the lighter layout myself. |
| by Vector_Matt @ 11 April 2008 06:26 am |
| Well, the lighter layout is easier on the eyes, and the dark one seems to fit the mood slightly better.
I guess the light one is better, but I have no strong preference either way. |
| by Betty @ 11 April 2008 06:24 am |
| This isn't a nasty criticism of your art work, but perhaps it would be worth finding an artist who would be willing to draw project ROL for you? Your art is developing and is by no means bad, but i think for a comic of this style, a more practised artist might be better, and would allow you to focus on the writing side (which i must say, is why i read this comic. I think the writing is quite incredible!) and updates would be easier for you.
Your art could always be used for the new artist as concept work or layout to help them with making each new page. |

| It is nice to talk about artistry but, I would like to discuss the topic of the actual storyline in this page if you guys don't mind :). This page to me is quite a big deal, as it shows a recurrence of the "God Yasu" beyond the point of necessity and shows her doing something unrelated to the main character. It is my theory that the "God Yasu" is going to be around for awhile because of the way events have just unfolded. She looks like she is simply bored and decided to snoop in her mortal self's business. I don't believe that Jason would feel the need to show that if this was a character that would be here for a little while then vanish in a puff of smoke. Nay, this is a lasting character who will be hanging around haru I suspect, or at the very least will leave at whims and return frequently |
| by bbr @ 11 April 2008 09:15 am |
| So, it seems adam the only one who can see her currently. |
| by Voba @ 11 April 2008 09:28 am |
| In my opinion, the lighter layout is far superior to the darker one. |
| by teejay @ 11 April 2008 10:03 am |
| Hello, I've been reading this comic for awhile and I agree with betty in some way. It would be easier for you to get a more practiced artist to draw it for you - you are improving greatly, but at the same updates would be simplier and faster. You could also work on the storyline - which is great. |
| by Choko @ 11 April 2008 10:08 am |
| Hi Jason :D remember me? it's been a while.
Well first, great page. You're doing great with your tablet :D I liked the color scheme in this page, and I'm excited to see Yasu's new outfit. About the layout, I liked the lighter one :) the darker one is too similar to the current layout. A change would be nice. And well even if I havent had the time to post here or the forums, I keep voting everyday => there's surely lots of people who do it too, so don't worry about bad comments <3 you have many loyal fans, like me. |
| by kat @ 11 April 2008 10:26 am |
| darker is better 4 sure |
| by Mog @ 11 April 2008 12:22 pm |
| Hello, I've been reading Project ROL for a while now and though it is my first time commenting, I must say that everything that makes this webcomic is very enjoyable. The artstyle is very original, and it also look like a little bit of a paintbrush art. Also, being a maniacal fan of all that is mythologic or religious fantasy, the story seems very well based around the Ancient testament, even though there is a few flaws here and there. Keep up the good work! ^^
P.S. - The Darker layout is better on the eye and fits a lot more the story theme than the lighter one from my point of view. |
| by Jason @ 11 April 2008 12:55 pm |
| Geez, this is not the response I was hoping to get in regards to the layout. I thought that most people would jump on the darker layout since I had so many "it's too bright" comments earlier about the light one. Now it seems it is 50-50...
And regarding comments about me hiring an artist...well, maybe I'm just prideful, but I want to succeed and fail with my own abilities rather than relying on someone else. In the end, this nothing more than a hobby to me...the writing, the drawing, and the website. |
| by Kat-chan @ 11 April 2008 02:31 pm |
| Call me weird, but I love the lighter layout. It's just cooler and everything fits. Even though I'm only one manga nerd I just love your work! Keep 'em coming. Thanks for all your hard work. |
| by Silver Pink @ 11 April 2008 08:09 pm |
| I think the gradients might have much to do with the complaints of "it's too bright". I do like the lighter layout better, but maybe you might want to consider toning down the gradients and going with more solid/subtle colors for the page elements. Brightly gradiented graphics atop a light background is a bit too much.
I do want to see the light background kept, though. I like that. |
| by byrdo @ 11 April 2008 09:40 pm |
| THE DARKER ONE. The light one is brighter than a thousand suns and burns my eyes. |
| by Aria Redd @ 11 April 2008 10:27 pm |
| I prefer the darker style.
All that white and silver... makes my eyes bleed... |
| by Null @ 12 April 2008 01:35 am |
| I like the darker version because it has a more serious tone about it and the banner up top looks more interesting imo. Of course, it doesn't look that different from the current layout so it's not that much of a change.
I think you should keep the lighter version anyway just for a change, it just looks a little better for some reason. |
| by Treucko @ 12 April 2008 03:56 am |
| I think the darker layout looks better...
What is she up to 'How lucky... I found the other me' If anyone but Adam could see her they would be backing away slowly. P.S. Ha Ha Gods the shortest of the three. (Bored so I am Mocking God) |

| Now you get me voting every day :) This page looks really nice. I like the art and its great to see such improvements! |
| by Marche @ 12 April 2008 09:16 am |
| And to add to that:
Its seems the imageschack picture isn't working due the page/domain being banned. |
| by Jason @ 12 April 2008 02:08 pm |
| SEVEN votes for the lighter layout.
FIVE votes for the darker layout. I'll count up the votes again right before the next update and make my decision then...Of course, once one of the layouts is chosen, I'll either be asking the light theme voters how to make the dark theme better, or vice versa. |
| by Quill @ 12 April 2008 02:47 pm |
| I love both the colour layouts. I don't care so Both have my vote.
Also I really do love this page. It's really good, and the quality of art is good. Sure it may not be proffesional level, but it sure is impressive and I feel is quite unique. Finally you do deserve to be in the top lot. Sure it's not the most popular webcomic but it is the best and the most improved I've ever seen. It is extremely interesting how you developed the art and the story from generation 1. That's why I feel you deserve to be up there. |
| by Flyingsquirrel @ 12 April 2008 08:53 pm |
| I'm really enjoying the story. the simpler art style actually seems to enhance the story rather than detract from it. It's like things are still forming. Like the dream is still being made. but yeah, definatley going to check this out more. |
| by Brownie @ 12 April 2008 09:11 pm |
| I don't have a preference either... but I would like to point out that the customer is NOT always right.
notalwaysright (you guessed it) . com XDD Awesome site. |
| by Ninja or not to ninj @ 12 April 2008 10:13 pm |
| The graphic from the dark one and if u were to tone the bright one down a few notches it would be perfect. the whole mint green-red thing was VERY clashing. |
| by Choko @ 12 April 2008 11:26 pm |
| Today's vote incentive nearly burned my eyes. |

nowhere to go but up from a sprite comic though is there |
| by Loki Fenrisulf @ 13 April 2008 03:13 am |
| I think the darker one looks better.
Or at least the black background of the comics would crash too much with the bright site (the page may not be the same you showed, but the layout is the same).. |
| by Treucko @ 13 April 2008 10:05 am |
| The creepy thing on page 85, i cant stop looking at it.
It realy draws my attention *chills run down spine* |
| by Treucko @ 13 April 2008 10:08 am |
| once again the amaizing color changing eyes. when they go red like that i cant elp but think 'trouble' |
| by pretty_blossom @ 13 April 2008 10:32 am |
| 1) I prefer the darker layout, although i can live with the lighter one if have to. Seen some great comics in shitty layouts in the past, and it never stopped me.
2) I thought the major voting sites insist on 1 unique vote per day. I wouldn't know how to mess it up even if I felt inclined to. Still - a lot of 1 vote per day do add up. 3) Current page - so the humans have managed to capture an Angel - good for them. I wonder if it's dead and phormaldehyded or just sleeping. If the latter - you should really have it waking up at one point to rattle things out. The overall quality is good - the computer isn't interfeering with your art. Keep up the good work. |
| by Jason @ 13 April 2008 12:31 pm |
| NINE votes for light
NINE votes for dark You guys aren't making this easy for me...maybe I should just have a formal poll on the next update... |
| by Treucko @ 13 April 2008 01:50 pm |
| Why not compromise and have it at a mid-way?
|
| by <e @ 13 April 2008 06:05 pm |
| The lighter seems better to my eye. |
| by Karretch @ 13 April 2008 09:37 pm |
| Eh, either style will work with me. Also, I've seen that no one has thought of creating one of those "choose your layout" buttons. If you could do one of those, you could appease to everyone at the same time. |
| by pickleweasel @ 14 April 2008 05:40 am |
| I do really enjoy God's musings. This page looks quite nice, especially being only the second one you did all digitally.
Pleeeasee for the darker layout (or a midway as Treucko said). The light one is far too bright for my eyes. Though the "choose layout" would be cool to keep everyone happy. As for voting, I wouldn't be surprised if I were you. Yes, your comic isn't the most professional or well-established one out there, but that's part of why true fans vote for it. I know I constantly vote for comics that I love that are more of the underdog in a sense, so that more people will read them. Whereas I'm less encouraged to vote for ones that already have an enormous following. Project ROL deserves the votes and the attention! I hope that there is no one cheating the system, though I doubt anyone would do this... |
| by Treucko @ 14 April 2008 01:41 pm |
| Ya pickle, it bugs my eyes to the bright one.
Oh and your right though quality can boost it people pay attention to other factors such as the story and character structure and thats what they usualy vote for. |
| by Nonesuch @ 14 April 2008 03:41 pm |
| I still like the darker version better. Other than good will, what's to keep someone from just changing their name and voting again? I know its petty but I'm askin. |
| by Jason @ 14 April 2008 06:18 pm |
| 10 for light layout 11 for dark layout I'll probably just make a lighter "dark layout" (or darker "light layout" if that one wins) unless one side suddenly overwhelms the other in votes. As for what's to keep people from "voting" multiple times here in the commenting section for the layout color...I have a record of all the IPs. This is rather petty election to be cheating on anyway. |
| by CallMeKira @ 14 April 2008 06:45 pm |
| Personally, I simply love the darker layout. It fits the overall mood of the comic, and it's much easier on the eyes. Also, the lighter comic sort of gave me an impression of emptiness.
Maybe, if the public opinion remains as divided as it seems now, you could consider the option of allowing the user to choose a preferred layout upon entering the site? |
| by Treucko @ 15 April 2008 11:49 am |
| isn't the newge a little late for have i got my dates mixed up again?
|
| by Jason @ 15 April 2008 08:36 pm |
| Uh, the last page was on Friday, so no...I'm technically not late yet. I usually give myself 7 days to work on it. |
| by quixotichoyden @ 16 April 2008 00:20 am |
| It could only take an epic battle between layouts to pull me from lurker status.
Put my vote in for the dark layout. At the very least keep the picture from the dark layout. The extra detail in the background adds interest but it's dark enough that it doesn't take away from the foreground. Also blood red and navy compliment each other but blood red and sky blue...I'm just not feeling it. Something about this color combination doesn't seem to fit the impression I get from your comic. It's just not subtle enough or it doesn't convey the organic or the inorganic nature of the angel in your art. I can't quite put my finger on it. (I apologize if I'm reading too much into moods and colors!) The bright layout also makes it look like there's a tremendous amount of empty space going on. I think it's because the page is very low contrast and the eye doesn't have well defined borders to follow. Except for the teal and burgundy mix...they contrast so much I can't take my eyes of the stripes and the angel is being overtaken. I think it's because the burgundy and teal have the greatest contrast of the page and the most defined borders of the entire layout so a meaningless space filler ends up being the most prominent element of the page. Totally go for the dark layout, it's much more balanced! Either way, I'll still stop by once a week to check out your work. I've really liked what I've seen so far and I don't plan to give it up anytime soon regardless of layout. |
| by Pheonid @ 16 April 2008 01:56 pm |
| I think the darker layout looks way cooler. |
| by Malina @ 16 April 2008 02:29 pm |
| I like the lighter layout, actually. The darker one looks too much like this one. =] I think a change would be nice. |
| by encantrix @ 17 April 2008 03:24 am |
| Dark layout for sure. |
| by Treucko @ 17 April 2008 10:11 am |
| To save you counting it tooks about 12 -11.
Again I think you should go for the mid-way before you have in minuture war on here between preferance... Tribal wars has made me too tactful... (thats not a word, is it?). Oh well you get the point and I mess up my electronic calander. Last time I let my sister near it... Any way have fun, finish the page and make up your mind. *Zones out* |
| by NicNow @ 17 April 2008 02:44 pm |
| Hey, I place my vote in the light interface. Speaking as a designer myself, I would rather have a clean looking interface then a busy one. Though I might try one that takes the darker banner and puts it into the light layout... just a thought. |
| by bbr @ 18 April 2008 02:50 am |
| You could always add "both" and simply give the user the chance to select 1 or the other rather than a fixed theme.
Black ftw tho. |
| by Okami @ 18 April 2008 08:10 am |
| Well, white looks empty and Black looks busy. I'd rather be looking at the busy layout then the empty one. xP
So Dark it is for me. Though if you were to go with the light, add the banner from the darker one. It looks much better then the banner for the lighter layout. And... I LOVE YOUR COMIC! Keep up the good work. :3 |
| by ken-chan @ 18 April 2008 12:13 pm |
| i couldnt freakin care what happens with the colors as long as u continue this story.... the art work is good enough -.-.... but then again... my taste isnt really good xD^-^(no offence ofc) |
| by Jason @ 18 April 2008 01:58 pm |
| I'm going to be late on the next update. Sorry about this... |
| by Shade @ 19 April 2008 01:09 am |
| I am going to have to go with the darker layout, much easier on my eyes actually. Makes whats important show up without being blinded by a white background. |
| by Treucko @ 19 April 2008 08:35 am |
| Wow... I must be psychic... who wants lottery numbers ;)
|
| by Jason @ 19 April 2008 10:03 pm |

Ha, anyway...I "should" get it done sometime tonight or tomorrow. At the very latest, it'll be up by Monday. |
| by Treucko @ 20 April 2008 08:38 am |
| Na... just a coincidence I get my dates crossed and less than 12 hours late you anounce that its late... |
