I found a nice article in the Urban Legend Reference Page about it. basically it says the whole thing is garbage, which I'm willing to retract my original statement on the subject and accept. The origin of the myth is unclear but possibly not that old. Probably somebody who didn't know enough about the brain said something that got picked up by somebody else that didn't know about the 1st person's lack of expertise. They say in the article that several sources were involved and it was picked up by the psychic croud for confirming their belief. As a skeptic I automatically distance myself from this untrue fact. There's no reason to assume that there's any basis in reality for that. |

BTW - it's not the number of connections, it's the way they operate that's impressive: a neuron fires if it recieves signals from other neurons above a certain number. That's all a neuron knows how to do. The question becomes what other neurons signal each other at any give time. This simple principle is responsibe for the human conciousness. Amazing. |

| Yasu's torso looks a bit odd in the second panel, although the head and arm look pretty good.
Also in the second panel, the guy's arm looks quite...er.. mechanical? Or wooden... Yasu: *feels tap on shoulder and turns around* Dude, what? This is serious. Stop playing around with that fake arm. Uniformed Guy: Oh come on. *waves arm around* Isn't it cool? It comes in really handy. You can even toss it at people like a weapon! *looks very enthusiastic* Yasu: ... *stares* uh... no... XD *coughcoughahem* ANYWAY before I ruin the seriousness of the page... For faces that are not head-on you seem to have a tendency to place the farther eye too close to the edge of the face. And also the occasional tendency to place the nose too far to one side. |
