it's ok to copy-paste a background and just put the different moving bits on it, just don't make it obious like in those old cartoons. Over there there was a distinct difference betweeen the shading of the background and the stuff that moved, so if there was a book-shelf (for example) and only one book was being taken, u could spot which one it was from the 1st frame. Here u don't really have that problem, so it's ok.

Awesome!

Thanks for the comments.

By the way newer readers...I prefer general comments to be on the first page of the updated batch. In other words, the page on the front page of Project ROL. It just makes it easier for discussion that way ^_^

Pretty Blossom: I always groan when I see those cartoons. I want to grab that book myself and wack the cartoonist with it. Thank goodness there isnt much of that anymore!

I would have re-used that frame as well. Sure, putting effort into stuff is always good, but its getting a bit silly when you draw the frame to look nearly exactly the same as another one.

RE:post

oh, soo good, humanity has much to answer for, neh?

we've matured as a society greatly, but the idea of manifest destiny and an unhealthy immortality complex still remain

selfishness, greed, lust, power, wealth, rich, poor

all these come from two things: arrogance and pride

and we must be cleansed of them if we are to move on

I think I recognize the red-haired person and the other cloacked one somewere in gen3, but I can't just tell where...
by Jason @ 04 July 2007 11:38 am
Good eyes, Loki. The red-haired person has Shino's costume (different color scheme). The cloaked one on the right is the gray-haired A-Unit (diff. color scheme again). And the brown shirt person with the kid actually has Torio's costume with different colors again.

By the way, you said you were trying to make a more professional comic... The professional ones don't use things like "sfx : siren" or "sfx : explosion "... they either use onomatopoeias or do nothing and ignore the sound.

I thought that using the same frame thrice was good here; it gave a feeling of being frozen in time. Yasu may have been feeling a bit frozen by his questions... Hard to describe, but anyway, good idea. ^_^

Interesting webcomic, but I would like to know why you didn't use a ruler on this page? (and some other ones?) It would definitely help the art.

I'm not sure if you were trying to give a sense of movement or not, but if you were, the people walking by are much too stiff. For example, the red-haired person in black, along with the child that (s)he is dragging along. The clothing needs more shading and should not be exactly square. A lot of your art seems to rely on straight lines. Although that's great for architecture and other things, say... anime hair, different line thickness and 'shape' (ie, curves) can add a whole different texture to things.

This comment ended up really long. And I'm not too sure if that made enough sense to help? Er, also wasn't sure if this would be categorized as general or not. (But since I made specific references to this page, >_>)

At any rate, it certainly isn't a *bad* webcomic. Looking back at your older ones, I can see your art has improved. ^__^
Please keep up the good work. (And don't be afraid to updated slowly, particularly if it means better art) I'll be sure to check back occasionally. @__@ I read too many webcomics, I swear.

Ok. I'll end this here... thanks for your time. XDD

Ruler question: laziness. It takes much longer to use rulers for me...personally...

But thanks for your comments Ara! They do help even though I may sound like I'm rejecting your ideas. I keep everything I hear in the back of my mind and they often resurface later on even though I can't remember where I heard it from =P
by Ara @ 13 July 2007 11:03 am
ahaha, yes, I see. XD Laziness is indeed an intriguingly powerful force.
