" bzzzzzzz, bzzzzzzz. " goes the bee. " ha ha ha you can't catch me! "
by Ameides @ 22 June 2007 04:43 pm
That bee thing is awesome! And yeah, she does kinda remind me of a bee... XP
by Jason @ 23 June 2007 00:07 am
@kat: Yeah...ha ha...

@Ameides: Good! So I'm not the only one who thinks she looks like a bee. It's especially noticeable now that I decided to give her almost-pitch-black pants...
by justin @ 23 June 2007 10:16 am
there is a similar species of ant that kills the opposing queen and copies her pheremone patterns.
by pretty_blossom @ 23 June 2007 10:29 am
in israel the local bees are yellow and brown, which is the main difference between them and the most common wasps, which are yellow and black. Dunno what kind of be Yasu is supposed to be...
The cuckoo phenomenon is interesting - symbiosis is a wonderful thing.
by Jason @ 23 June 2007 02:43 pm
Brown? Oh...I suppose bees may be brown whereas wasps are black. I'm honestly not too familiar with bees... I just remember reading an article about the cuckoo bee in some old didactic article as a child and found it amusing. Like some kind of weird facts you remember all your life XD
by Kat @ 23 June 2007 03:40 pm
Yea i no wat u mean
by Ameides @ 23 June 2007 05:19 pm
Isnt evolution amazing? ^^ (sorry if youre christian and dont believe in that sort of thing... Wait, then why are you reading this comic??? XP)
by pretty_blossom @ 24 June 2007 02:41 pm
never apologise for evolution - they should be apologising for sticking with outmoded and unproved beliefs.
by Ameides @ 25 June 2007 00:10 am
I agree, but I find its always best to respect others beliefs. Theres this one girl who doesnt and it really gets on my nerves. Shes christian and seems to be on a one-man cruisade to convert everybody else. Well, one girl, whatever. But we should all have a choice about what we believe in, all her annoying, repeated arguments are doing to me is making me want to bash her freaking face in!!! I swear, the next time she picks a fight about creation vs evolution Im going to rip out her voicebox, replace it with a chunk of explosive and blow her up as I yell 'GO TO HEEEELLLLLLL!!!'! Grrr... Its not just about religion either. It seems that every time she has an opinion, no one else is allowed to have one or speak their mind about it. What the hell happened to free speech?!?!? Anyway, enough ranting. *breathes deeply* calm down Ameides...

On the topic of evolution: I dont get it how some people dont accept darwins theory. Its almost common sense: A dead albino fish cant pass on its DNA! O.o?
by Tom @ 25 June 2007 09:32 am
I'm Christian but it annoys me when people don't read their own book and make it up as they go along.... Gays I bet God doesn't like thme, and he creates me in his own likeness but i better not play God, must say that somewhere. He gave us all freewill and everones always had i choice but I'll mkae sure that they choose Christianity and so on.

I accept a lot of evolution but there are a LOT of kinks that need to be worked out, to many for people to just go around blindly believing in it.

Like gradual evolution, a random mutaion happened that made a horse leg longer. And then it happened again randomly but slightly longer, and the again and again. All random and all effecting the length of a horses leg.
by pretty_blossom @ 25 June 2007 01:47 pm
@tom - is that what's bothering u about evolution? horses' legs? u should really go and read some articles about the front line of research. Example - current scientific theory says that there are aproximately 30,000 working genes in mamalian DNA - doesn't matter which mammel, they all have those same 30,000 genes - humans, apes, monkeys, shrews, ect. Out of these 30,000 genes come out about 100,000 different proteins. Those proteins look pretty much the same in all the creatures who have them, including quite a lot of proteins that come from bacterias. If there was some hypothetical god that made them, I'd say that god lacks imagination. Anyway - out of those 30,000 genes in mammals, some pretty wild shapes have been created. From tiny shrews (it's not exactly a type of mouse, but it looks like one, only smaller) to the giant blue whales. We all share the same basic strcture, and all those different shapes are just the way different control factors operate on those genes.
by pretty_blossom @ 25 June 2007 01:48 pm
continued:
What people often get wrong is about random mutations - yes they are random, but most of them are lethal and many would cause more harm than good if expressed, which is why the body takes great care to monitor them with all sorts of safeguards. The thing is that once in stress condition, like a GRADUAL change of temperature or type of food or whatever, those safeguards are diverted to protect the really basic stuff and leave the less important stuff exposed - all those mutations that were masked by the safeguards now come to be expressed. Those that are HELPFUL will mena that those individuals that have them will multiply faster than those that don't. Once u have something like that, it's really only a matter of time until u get a new species (say 10,000 years minimum). It's a simple enough process - if u're a microbiologist or a geneticist or even just a zoologist u can see how it happens. Beats me why so many people insist that it doesn't exist when the evidence that it does is staring at them in the face.r
Sure - there's a lot that science hasn't figured out yet - a good scientist whould be the 1st to admit that - but the theory of evolution is pretty solid now that it has spent the last 150 years being attacked from all directions.
by pretty_blossom @ 25 June 2007 01:48 pm
BTW - the horse's legs aren't the longest legs in that family - take a look at giraffs. Obiously in the savana things with longer legs could run .faster and avoid that lion running after them. Things with shorter legs got eaten and didn't get to multiply. Pick something more interesting, like the bacterium flagela (a little tail thing that helps some bacterias to move around) or how come some insects like bees and ants are hirarcial. I'm personally curious about the function of things called microsatelites or SSR - short sequences repeats in the DNA - like having a section with AGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAG. Those things are highly mutable and tend to add or drop parts of the repeats, thus causing a variety of diseases in humans. For some reason evolution has decided to keep them anyway. Appearantly they do help the body in some way, but most scientists aren't sure how.
by pretty_blossom @ 25 June 2007 01:54 pm
sorry for the long posts, but for some reason I find myself defending evolution all over the place, and I've started preparing a fixed line of arguements. not that it helps - there's no helping some people. If god didn't intend for us to dfind out all this stuff about science and history, why did he give us brains and the ability to use that equipment? is he cheating us in some way? if u can't believe those evidence, what can u believe?
by Ameides @ 25 June 2007 11:22 pm
I still stand on the basis that you should respect others beliefs, but I hate it when people start pulling things out of the air that just isnt TRUE! ARGH! I totally agree with pretty_blossom! Yes, there are some blank parts of the theory, but theres blank parts in very theory and nothing is perfect! Nobody is a real scientist without accepting that (because what are you going to do in science if theres nothing to study???) and nobody can argue any point about anything without accepting that. If you dont believe in evolution, take a look at viruses! They mutate so much, its a pain in the neck. I hate it when people say that evolution doesnt exist or just isnt happening because its happening everywhere, every second! Viruses are just the easiest to see and should be thrown in the face of anyone who denies it! Believe what you want about the unknown, but dont refuse what you can see with your eyes and has less than 0.00000000000000000000000000001 percent of being wrong. (I say this because no theory can be proved, only disproved)
Hm. Im hungry... *wanders off*
by Kat @ 27 June 2007 07:17 pm
Im catholic!
by Ara @ 09 July 2007 03:58 pm
Erk! *stabs bad proportions* Yasu's hips are way to thin... and the gloves are a bit large.

(Yea, I just commented backwards...)

Background in the first panel is a bit sloped, although I'm not sure if that was on purpose or not? =/

2nd panel is very good. I like the dude's hair, although the front aread could use some more texture/highlights. :)

Last two panels are nice, although I can't say that the positioning was particularly effective. (Why cut off part of the face?)

By the way, I don't know if this has been addressed already, but is there any way you can make the comic page appear above the comments? It gets awful annoying to keep clicking the back button to remember what I wanted to critique.

Oooh, also... do you ever use speech bubbles that are more bubbly? As in not straight lines? (If I missed a few on the way, then you can just ignore this >__>) This is just a matter of personal preference/habit, but I'm used to straight lines/more boxy speech being... say a computerized voice or otherwise. Just a thought.
by Ara @ 09 July 2007 04:32 pm
Now that I think of it, narrow would be a better word. Yasu's hips are too narrow. :-P
by Jason @ 09 July 2007 09:16 pm
Thanks for the critiques, Ara...I'll consider what you said.

Regarding the comic above the comments...I'd prefer not to because I can personally name off at least two 56k users here, and having to load the image again on the comments wouldn't be very pleasant...even when it is cached...

And regarding the bubbles...it's a personal style and I don't think I'll be changing them as of yet...

Eck, it sounds like I'm rejecting everything. I actually agree with the bad proportions though ^_^
by Ara @ 13 July 2007 10:44 am
Haha, no worries. I thought there might be some problems with loading if you put the comic above the comments, but I figured I'd ask anyway. ^__^

I was just wondering about what to expect concerning speech bubbles. @__@ I am sad to admit that it actually took me a while to figure out that they weren't voice overs or loudspeakers or something... ::facepalm::

HAND LOOKS CHUNKY IN 2ND PANNEL
by Jason @ 14 September 2007 10:47 pm
Um...sorry? Hands are my weak point, but I'm working on them ^_^
by Sophie @ 02 February 2008 02:59 pm
Hands are a weak point for me too. In fact, they are such a weak point they suck... really really bad. If I'm doodling I usually just... leave them off XD.
