Hello! I'm Jason Lai, the one who (more or less) does everything here at ROL. The comic was created by me, the web design was created by me, and the news/comic script/program/code were all created by me. The only thing on this entire site not created by me is the forums, but I have no intention of scripting my own forum at the present moment.
Moving on, things I do in my free time other than this website include acoustic guitar (started back in 1998), long-distance running (marathon training), and trying to maintain decent grades in college (to maintain my scholarship). I am currently majoring in bioengineering or biomedical engineering in Arizona State University. It's sometimes difficult juggling this website with my engineering major, but I'm managing somehow...
A little background on myself...my parents are from Hong Kong, thus making me Cantonese. I, myself, was born and raised in Arizona, United States. As a child, I was pushed academically by my parents, thus ended up being three grade levels ahead in mathematics and two grade levels in science since 5th grade. Nevertheless, this has given me the chance to take a step back and look at the weaknesses and strengths of both the American Education System and the Chinese Education System. More specifically, creativity and free-will versus discipline and pure knowledge.
However, just in case I rubbing off as a braggart, I admit I am terrible at English and Foreign Languages (Spanish) and probably no better than average in any non-math or non-science course. In short, my strong points tend to fall in the logical category rather than the linguistic. I also like to think of myself as somewhat artistic and creative, but I have no substancial proof or logic behind that statement.
But putting aside my education, majority of my childhood was spent on my computer, playing basketball, and training in track and cross-country. I also participated in a few clubs in High School, but focused most of my time to sports (basketball, track, cross-country). In short, I lived a very normal and semi-active life during my teenage years; nothing out of the ordinary, except perhaps I was never a big advocate for video games as some of my classmates seem to be.
Nevertheless, somewhere along the way I decided to give webcomics a try. As of yet, I have no regrets choosing this hobby...though technically I can't call it a hobby anymore since I am getting paid a monthly check of $200+ via Yahoo! Overture (as of June 2007).
Oh, and you've probably noticed by now -- I have a habit of rambling.
