ONE NEW PAGE. Ha, Haru looks Korean on the first panel. Nothing against Koreans, of course, but there's a certain feature they have that distinctly separates them from other orientals (oops, using "oriental" to describe people is considered racial now *rolls eyes*). Why is the term oriental politically incorrect? How do I differentiate Chinese/Japanese/Korean/etc from the rest of Asia now? Yellow Asians? It saddens me to think that my fellow American-born yellow Asians brought about this new rule by joining this "political correctness" nonsense.

Well, on the topic of "yellow" Asians, the Olympic opening ceremony took place last Friday (08/08/08). I watched it twice...first on NBC (an American station), then again the next day on TVB (a Cantonese station, which anyone who's ever been to Hong Kong should recognize since they pretty much control Cantonese entertainment). Regardless, it's a pretty big deal for the Chinese since it was supposed to be a coming out party for China to be recognized as a world power contender. Apparently many Chinese people were in tears while watching the opening ceremonies from all around the world (especially those of older generations)...and, though I wasn't one of them, I understand the feeling...China has been through a lot and has been working hard for this moment.

Anyway, China is trying to go for the most medals this year. As usual, the U.S. received many medals from swimming and later they're bound to receive many for track and field as well. China on the other hand has gymnastics, diving, table tennis, and badminton as their strong points. Unfortunately for China though, swimming and track has way too many events (around 90 golds and 270 medals possible)...which is why the U.S. always comes out as the medal leader the last half century. At the moment though, China is doing rather well, so it may finally be time for a new medal count leader. Of course, with the recent string of natural disasters, bad rep, scolding from Western nations, and money spent on being the host country...China probably deserves SOMETHING since they've been down on their luck lately.

But enough of the ranting, let's move on to site-related news. I updated the links for voting on Buzzcomix though, honestly, the new layout of that toplist is EXACTLY the type of layout I dispise: heavy client-side scripting, glitchy Javascript movements/effects, bulky web layout, and slow loading times. I keep Javascript/Flash off for majority of my browsing time, and I use use text browsers for quick browsing; so Buzzcomix has become a website that I can't even view properly unless I'm using a specific browser with specific settings enabled (and specific security settings disabled). Sorry to say this, but I find it hideous and a perfect example of Web 2.0 gone terribly wrong.

But of course, if Buzzcomix brings in new readers, who am I to complain? As long as I'm not placed in a disadvantaged position, I'll keep the vote link there. Luckily, the toplist did keep the voting page pretty clean, so I have no gripes there.

So I know I probably don't have the right to say this after bashing Buzzcomix...but please vote for Project ROL! lol...I'm such a hypocrite...
