Page 64
ONE NEW PAGE, one new preview page. Notice anything different about this page? I sure hope you do because it took forever to do. But before I tangent into what art style and coloring technique was used, I would like to mention that the "I am alive" text is from page 62 where it said that Adam's first words was (coincidentally) also "I am alive."

You probably noticed by now, but I'm not very subtle with the symbolism and metaphors. Classic novelist like to use metaphors and just let the readers interpret/find them...but for me, if I'm trying to make connections between things, I'm going to be as blatantly obvious as possible. I'm not looking for people to critically analyze my work for hidden meanings...if I placed symbolism in there, you better see/understand it otherwise the time spent planning it was in vain. I'm not shooting to become a Pulitzer or Nobel Prize winner.

Anyway, new art style! As I was talking about on the last page...I'm trying to do soft cell shading. Actually, I stumbled upon another terminology for this technique which I like better: digital painting. It really does feel like painting because I'm sitting here mixing colors and creating layers and layers of colors until I got the final product. Of course, doing it on a computer is much less messier than real paints, plus it has one of the most valuable tools ever: the undo button.

Regardless, I know I said on the last page that I was only going to do digital painting on the hair...but this page looked so plain I just had to do something to spice it up. So I figured I would try digitally painting everything. Of course, I didn't realize how damn long it was going to take. I really should have done more practice before going for this full-blown page; this is only the third time I tried coloring like this. Though I liked how this page ended up looking, I realize I have a lot of learn about this technique...especially how to paint different textures, smoothing out the colors, and the placement of shadows/shades.

Oh, and it's a shame that guy's hair and eyes are so small. I took a lot of time shading those two areas, only to find in the end that those details are literally unnoticeable after reducing the size of the image...
