I'm back from my trip to Canada. It was quite a pleasant little trip partially due to the tame weather (apparently it rained before and after the days we spent in Seattle). I also got a chance to see relatives I haven't seen for 13 to 14 years. It's a real shame that my Canadian relatives are the ones that I see the least of because they're quite an enjoyable family to spend time with. I honestly had a fun time with my cousins despite getting less sleep than usual (I haven't pulled a sleepless night for years...)
But, I suppose if you're reading this news entry, you're curious about Project ROL rather than my personal vacation, so I'll move on to the normal mumble jumble. I'm only releasing one page today because that's all I finished over the course of these past ten days. I did, however, just read through the many comments readers left me. But rather than responding directly on the comments, I'm just going to address the concerns here since I doubt you'd want to search through previous pages to see my responses.
First off, I want to thank Brittany (it's okay if I mention your name here, right?) for telling me that there were actually a random group of people at the Otakon discussing Project ROL! Yup. People at the Anime Convention were talking about my graphic novel! How awesome is that? Lately, I've been impressed at how well Project ROL is growing in readership compared to my other 'generations'...so thank you very much for all the support!
Now, regarding the comments about how a straight-back can be effective in terms of air flow, body proportions, complex hand movements, etc...I can't exactly dispute it as I'm not too familiar with those explanations. But the fact is, from a physical standpoint, a lower center of mass is more efficient. I mean, look at the major sports. In basketball, the players crouch down when playing defensively to allow quicker movements...and during offense, basketball players use a crouched triple-stance position, which prompts the body to shoot, dribble, or pass. In tennis, the player is bent down so that he/she can react quicker to the return. In soccer/football, the goalie also has a slumped position; in American football, the linesmen maintain a low stance; in baseball, a base runner is crouched. Point being, these physical sports have been perfected over the last century by physicians and coaches...yet only a few situations require a straight upright posture unless it's to reach a high point.
Moving on to the comments about pulling out Torio and Shino from the storyline -- I ultimately decided against it, so no worries. However, I saw that many of you are expecting the happy-go-lucky, cow-loving, comic-relief Shino...but I'm pretty sure he's not going to be quite as...eccentric as he was in my older works. I don't suggest you get your hopes too high regarding that one.
Had I addressed the major concerns now? Overall, I appreciate everyone's support by leaving so many comments for me to browse through. Majority were positive comments, which really pushes me to continue the graphic novel. Nevertheless, thank you!
