Project ROL: Page 33

Page 33
I should be in either Seattle or Canada at this very moment. Luckily for my readers, I prepared two pages that will be released while I'm out of town (I tried to make three pages, but I couldn't get the third done in time). Nevertheless, rather than shoving both pages down your throat right now, I'll have one page up today and the next on Saturday. I'll be back in the middle of next week...so hopefully I will be able to put together another page within a few days after my return.

Today's page was unplanned. I slipped this page in because I wanted to have a closer view of the Angel, rather than just leaving it with that last page. However, because I had to fill up a full page, I made the Angel waste four panels standing up -- however, in truth, the first panel is how I'm going to position him in the future. If you're curious as to see why I think the posture of panel four is not good for my Angel, read the paragraph below:

In my opinion, without a tail, creatures that stand completely upright are unbalanced. I mean, even other primates tend to stand slouched rather than on just two legs. Depictions of the 'prehistoric man' place humans in a slouched posture as well. In short, 'good posture' (as we've come to know it as) is inefficient. You ever notice that in ancient artwork, the royalty always have good posture whereas their servants are slouched? It's because the royalty doesn't do anything but move that royal mouth of theirs...and because of that, society considers a straight back to signify prosperity and high ranking; in most cultures, 'good posture' is reinforced. At least, that's my theory as to why we're one of the few species who's so unbalanced walking on two legs (have you ever considered how easy it is for humans to tip over thanks to our upright posture?).

Now moving back to my Angel...this is only one type of Angel. The Angels have a predestined system where the soldiers are physically different from the less strong types (I can't think of a better name at the moment). I'm still working out the kinks to that concept, so I'm not going to say anything more for now. Let's see...oh yeah, some people were saying how the Angel looks like it has no skin. That's not really my original intent, but that works perfectly fine too. Of course, the skin serves as the first level of defense against diseases...so a skinless creature is actually not an improvement from the current human. But putting that aside, it still works if you don't try to be too technical about it. Truthfully, I wanted the Angel to look half-electronic, half-organic. The current 'model' is still imperfect, so the scientists used biomaterials to patch up the Angel, or perhaps even enhance certain parts. I also like to imagine that the Angel is completely biocompatible with anything (as a bioengineer major, that's one of the biggest problem my field faces), but then I realized that would be stupid as it would make the body completely prone to diseases.

On a different subject, Project ROL is moving slower than I was hoping. I've already planned the ending to this story...but at the rate I'm moving -- I'll never get there. I mean, it's been over 30 pages and I'm still on the prologue. So here's a plan I'm considering: scrape Shino and Torio story (they're both characters from my older work). I'm thinking about introducing them as backup characters with minimal showtime instead, because pulling out their respective stories would drastically cut the length by about 1/4. This is all hypothetical of course, because pulling their stories, especially Shino's, would change my main storyline a bit.

Yikes, I think this is a longer entry than usual. Next update will be one Saturday. I'll still be in Canada, but the automatic updating system I wrote will release it at midnight.
