Page 29
Two new pages up. I updated this one a little sooner than expected, so if you missed the Saturday update, jump back to page 28, though Saturday's update wasn't exactly very important...the page served as transition from Yasu's dazed phase to a sense of awareness.

What day is today? The sixteenth? Well, next week I'm flying to Canada to visit relatives I haven't seen for a decade. Honestly, I originally declined my parent's offer when they invited me to join them on this trip, but they eventually convinced me to tag along for the (free!) trip by mentioning how this may be my last chance to see my Canadian relatives since I probably won't ever go to Canada on my own time. Nevertheless, I'll be out for ten days starting this coming Sunday.

Now, regarding the humans only use 10% of their brains (yes, I'm being a persistent bugger here), I find it amusing that people are trying to explain the origin of the myth...yet no two 'origins' being explained to me actually match up. We only use 10% of our brains at any giving moment via action potentials; only ten percent of our brain is used for consciousness; we can survive with only 10% of our brains; our capacity is only ten percent of when babies are still in their sensorimotor and early preoperational stage of development (ages 0-3)... Where are these coming from? At least give a source for validity.

And why 10%? I don't know if people are realizing this, but 10% is an extreme number...it's a tenth of the whole. Even 25% (one fourth) would make these claims more plausible. Nevertheless, I took the liberty of researching this matter myself and have yet to find a source that corresponds to these 'origins'. By the way, I did find many sources that disproves 'facts' people are feeding me...such as the using 10% at any one given time...as well as the survival without 90% of the brain.

On the other hand, a common trend I encountered multiple times from different sources, is that the myth originated from a misquotation in a science journal during the early 1900s. However, neuroscience was very primitive back then (was the term neuroscience even coined yet?), so I wouldn't really trust that article even if it wasn't a misquotation. Regardless, the myth dates back to the 1900s...so you can't possibly convince me that they knew about action potentials when research about electrical currents in the giant axons of Loligos by Hodgekins, Huxley, and Katz is from the 1950s. So even if these explanations I'm getting is true...they have no relation with the 10% myth.

Anyway (back to Project ROL), if I'm productive I'll get another page up before I leave for the trip on Sunday...otherwise, you can expect the next update to be on this coming Monday.
