Why an early one page update? I don't know...an impulsive move on my part. I could have sit tight and waited until Monday to update this page...but now it's too late, isn't it? I suppose it's because I'm bored.
And just to make things clear: even though I criticize my artwork -- I'm still proud I was able to move from
here (gen2) to
here (gen3) to
here (gen4) in a span of one year and three months. I'm mentioning this because I received an email saying I'm being too tough on myself, which may be true. However, while I may still think my art needs work, I pride myself in being able to improve rapidly and seemingly limitlessly. In fact, I think my recent work is the best I've ever done throughout my life (not that I did much drawing before this website...).
I'm acting rather high-and-mighty, aren't I? It's because I got a very kind fan email (the first from gen4), which really boosted up my confidence...so thank you ____ for your kind words! (retracted the name due to privacy).
Anyway, recently while examining my budget spreadsheet, I noticed that I've made almost $2000 this past year and three months (including expenses). Thus, I decided to invest some cash back into Project ROL; I'm going to start buying web advertising under a budget of $100-$150 a month. Technically, this will only last me 20 months...however, I'm just investing a little in the site in hopes it will become even more profitable later. Hopefully with proper web advertising, I'll be able to bring in a whole new crowd of readers *grins in anticipation*
Regarding this current page: this is perhaps one of my most detailed background drawings. On the other hand, this may also be one of my sloppiest...I mean, the lines are all over the place, and the proportions are off (wasn't in the mood to use a ruler today). Luckily, the lack of smoothness helps bring out an aged look...making it look like the slums, which was what I was aiming for anyway. Man, even my blotches have improved in generation four (lol).
However, the actual images themselves are a bit random. I was unsure what setting to use: I started with cathedral-like buildings (first panel)...followed by old urban apartment-like buildings (second panel)...and finally capped off with whatever the final image is supposed to be (third panel). Anyway, this is still an important page in that it acts as the base of my future backgrounds. I mean, if I suddenly have a scene with an elegant medieval castle -- it'd look out of place compared to this urban Gothic city I've concocted.
Nevertheless, I have no idea when the next update is going to be...So adios until next time ^_^
